When I saw Him, Christ the Son of God,
Dying on the cruel cross for me,
All my heart was melted,
for I knew It was I who nailed Him to the tree.
When I felt His touch of love divine,
Knew that He had suffered death for me,
All my soul was filled with joy and praise,
For my sin was gone and I was free!
When He whispered to me,
"Peace, be still,"
Calmed the angry passions of my life,
All the bitter tumult died away,
And I knew no more of fear and strife.
When I heard the music of His voice,
Gazed upon His face so full of love,
I was spoiled for earth and all beside,
For my thoughts were fixed on things above.
When I saw my Savior and my Lord,
When He met me on my lonely way,
All of life was changed forevermore,
For He turned my darkness into day.
